This year, India was due to host the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup from the 2nd to the 21st of November. As a result of the worsening COVID-19 pandemic, the event has now been postponed indefinitely.

Although there are still 5 months left before the scheduled start of the tournament, the COVID-19 pandemic has already had an effect on the qualifying events. Only a few have gone ahead successfully, the remainder have been cancelled as a precaution.

The decision comes from the FIFA-Confederations working group, which was established recently in order to deal specifically with the COVID-19 pandemic. The group, which included FIFA administration and leaders from all confederations, reached the decision unanimously.

A statement released by FIFA says “New dates will be identified”.
